Rock Band Camp – In this 5 day collaborative rock band camp, instructed by professional musician, Chance Utter, students will play in small groups on guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, and vocals while developing core rock fundamentals, ensemble skills, and musical confidence. Campers will rehearse songs, learn the basics of arranging and stage presence, and collaborate as a band throughout the week. This camp is ideal for students with some musical experience who are excited to play in a group setting and bring music to life together.
++ Rhythm Breakout Sessions – Hand Drumming ++
During select parts of the camp day, band members will step away from their instruments to explore rhythm and groove through fun hand percussion sessions. Using djembes, congas, kponlogos, and bucket drums, campers will build timing and musical awareness through rhythm games, call-and-response patterns, and group drumming. These sessions strengthen the rhythmic foundation that great bands rely on—and no previous experience is necessary.
Instructor - Chance Utter
Chance Utter is a talented professional musician, as well as educator at Tahoe Expedition Academy. He brings a wide range of musical experience, know-how and enthusiasm to teaching, offering instruction in drumset, hand drums, guitar, and ukulele for students of all ages and skill levels.
His approach adapts to each student’s learning style while introducing rhythms and styles from around the world, including jazz, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, and West African traditions.
An accomplished performer, Chance tours nationally as the percussionist for Wolfgang Timber and has released two solo albums along with several collaborative recordings. His professional experience and passion for music help inspire students and campers alike to explore rhythm, creativity, and musical expression in a fun and engaging way.
CAMP DETAILS
Ages: Designed for campers ages 10 – 14 years old.
Days / Times: Camp runs from 9am – 3pm the below listed dates.
- Session #1 (4 day): Monday, June 29 – Thursday, July 2, 2026
- Session #2 (5 day) – Monday, July 27 – Friday, July 31, 2026
Performance – A live performance for parents will happen each Friday afternoon, details will be shared with registered families.
Where:Participants will meet each morning at Tahoe Expedition Academy’s 42 acre Martis Valley campus, located at 9765 Shaffer Mill Rd. Truckee, CA 96161.
What to Bring: Lunch, snacks, musical instrument (if not, one will be provided) and a water bottle.
Capacity: This camp is limited to 10 participants per session.
