CLIMB + CAMP SONORA PASS
In collaboration with Equalized Climbing Guides, Tahoe Summer Camps is excited to offer a new, exclusive backcountry camping and climbing expedition to Sonora Pass, California. Equalized Climbing Guides is a premier rock guide service with deep expertise throughout the Lake Tahoe region and the Central Sierra. Founder and lead guide Erik Moore is a AMGA Certified Rock Guide who knows the area’s best climbing and camping zones, including a few hidden gems, making this a remarkable Sierra expedition.
TSC rock climbing lead guide and Molly Massena will co-lead this trip! Originally from Washington, has been climbing since 2000 and has spent the past ten years guiding full-time in destinations including Joshua Tree, the Eastern Sierra, Washington and Japan. A former finance professional and graduate of University of Washington, she’s now an AMGA Certified Rock Guide, and recently earned her full endorsement as a Alpine & Ski Guide.
This late July four day, three night (Tuesday – Friday) adventure begins and ends at Tahoe Summer Camps base camp, Tahoe Expedition Academy. Experienced TSC guides will accompany campers on this trip as well and serve as chaperones, drivers, guides throughout the entirety of this trip.
CAMP DETAILS
Ages: Designed for 11 to 14 year old campers, some climbing + camping experience is recommended.
When: Tuesday, July 28 – Friday, July 31, 2026 from 10:00am Tuesday to ~3:00pm return on Friday – for parent pickup. Specifics will be emailed to registered parents.
Where: This unique expedition begins and ends at Tahoe Expedition Academy, located at 9765 Schaffer Mill Rd. Truckee, CA 96161. Transportation will be provided from Tahoe Expedition Academy (Tahoe Summer Camps’ Base Camp) to Sonora Pass, Central Sierra zone and back.
Trip Details: Sonora Pass, along Highway 108 in the Central Sierra between Lake Tahoe and Yosemite, offers some of the finest granite climbing north of the Valley, with routes for all ability levels. Our climbers will take on classic granite pitches, crack systems, and slabs, while surrounded by sweeping views of the Central Sierra’s peaks and ridgelines. Camp’s remote, scenic base offers a true wilderness escape with access to the storied Eastside, including the towns Bridgeport and Sonora. Beyond climbing, campers will enjoy nearby hikes, alpine lake swims, and the rugged beauty of the high Sierra backcountry.
Provided Gear: Tahoe Summer Camps + Equalized Climbing Guides has overnight backpacks, tents, group cooking supplies and necessities available, at no additional charge. Food is also included in camp registration. Climbing gear will be provided, though if your child has their own certified harness, helmet and shoes that are in good working order, please feel free to bring.
