Unlock Creativity and Code: Where AI Meets Web Design

Website Dev + Artificial Intelligence Design Lab is designed for campers 12 to 16 years old and instructed by Christopher Crevling, a seasoned, twenty year professional in the field of software development and business management. During the four day offering, campers, turned developers, will deep dive into wordpress, coding, e-commerce, navigation, plugin-widgets and other core website design tools. Throughout the design process participants will learn about, utilize and deploy AI to help build, condition and enhance their websites and end user experience. By camp’s end, campers will have built their very own, launch ready website complete with AI plug-ins and more!

Daily lessons components, curriculum highlights and camper outcomes include:

Introduction to WordPress and AI Basics

    • Introduction to WordPress and Web Development: Campers will be introduced to the basics of WordPress, what it is, and how it works.
    • Setting Up a WordPress Account: Learn how to create a WordPress account, navigate the Dashboard, and create a new site.
    • Choosing and Customizing a Theme: Discover WordPress themes, how to select a pre-built theme, and customize site appearance.
    • AI Basics & Magic: Dive into the world of AI—learn about machine learning, neural networks, and natural language processing.
    • Chat Bot Experiments: Explore language processing models like ChatGPT to create different dialog styles and prompts.

Creating Content and AI-Powered Features

    • Adding Pages and Posts: Learn how to add and format pages and posts, including text, images, and videos.
    • Creating a Menu and Adding Plugins: Manage custom navigation menus and learn about different types of WordPress plugins.
    • Creating Custom Post Types: Use plugins to create custom post types and manage site content.
    • Web Design Fundamentals: Master HTML, CSS, and JavaScript—the building blocks of web design.
    • AI + Code Integration: Understand how to meld code with AI to quickly create, tool, and test web projects.

Advanced Web Components and AI Integration

    • Widgets and Sidebars: Learn about WordPress widgets and how to add them to your site’s sidebars and footers.
    • Gutenberg Crash Course: Use the Gutenberg block editor to create visually appealing content.
    • Enhancing Site Functionality: Add features like contact forms, social media buttons, and a search bar.
    • Responsive Web Design: Craft websites that look stunning on any device.
    • Personalization with AI: Use AI to create personalized user experiences, such as chatbots and virtual assistants.

E-Commerce and AI-Enhanced Portfolio

    • Creating and Managing a Blog: Learn how to create and manage a blog, including adding posts, categories, and tags.
    • Adding E-Commerce Functionality: Set up e-commerce features, including a shopping cart and products, using WooCommerce.
    • Group Project: Work together on a real-world web design project. Brainstorm, wireframe, prototype, and iterate.
    • AI-Powered Web Components: Use AI for image and video generation, personalized content, and data-driven decisions.

Final Projects and Presentations

    • Finalizing the Website with AI Tools: Campers will use AI tools to put the finishing touches on their websites. This includes optimizing images, generating content, and integrating AI-powered features like chatbots and recommendation systems.
    • Final Project Presentation: Campers will present their final projects, showcasing the websites they created and demonstrating their newly acquired skills.
    • Feedback and Q&A: Receive feedback on projects and ask questions about WordPress, web development, and AI.
    • Closing Ceremony and Awards: Campers will receive awards and certificates for their participation, reflecting on their learning experience.

Chris is a seasoned professional in the field of software development and business management. He has over 20 years of experience in the industry, and has built a reputation for delivering high-quality solutions to his clients. He is a skilled coder and has a strong understanding of various programming languages and frameworks. He has also demonstrated an ability to lead and manage a team of developers, ensuring that projects are completed on time and to the client’s satisfaction. Chris teaches coding from time to time, he most recently taught at Tahoe Expedition Academy during the 2021-22 school year.

What to Bring: Computer Requirement – A PC Windows professional laptop or an updated MacBook Pro capable of running coding software. also pack lunch, snack, hat and sunglasses, as well as close toed shoes.
